Course Description
This recorded class discusses the basics of exercise physiology and how these concepts are applied to the treatment of dysphagia. This discussion will include an evidence based review of swallowing exercises available to the treating clinician and how to gain the most impact in therapy. Diet progression will also be discussed as a means for remediation of the muscle dysfunction.
Disclosure: VitalStim will be discussed as one tool that can be used in swallowing therapy. Other swallowing treatments will be discussed but no other NMES for Dysphagia tools will be discussed during this presentation.
Computer with internet and working speakers/sound are required for this course.
Course must be completed within 30 days of activation.
An online quiz and evaluation form are required for completion.
A certificate of completion will be available to print once course is successfully completed.
ASHA CEUs may be obtained by completing the online ASHA form and checking the "Report to ASHA" box.

- Identify when modified diets and compensations are appropriate and how to make effective decisions that support swallowing rehabilitation
Jen Carter
M.Ed. CCC-SLP, BCS-S
Jen is a medically-based speech pathologist with 24 years of experience evaluating and treating dysphagia and is a board certified specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders. She currently lives in Denver and has a private practice, the Carter Swallowing Center, solely focused on dysphagia. She frequently presents at the local, state, and national level on the topic of swallowing treatment. When she’s not working, Jen enjoys hiking and backpacking in Colorado.
