Course Description

Therapists are challenged by patients diagnosed with Parkinson's to provide appropriate therapies and work within our standard practice of care. We must know the impact Parkinson's has on cognition and swallowing, the impact of medications and what therapy tools/techniques can make an impact on their cognition, swallowing and quality of life. This seminar will provide information on the diagnostic process, theories on development of the disease, symptoms that present in early Parkinson's as well as the later stages. Medications may improve quality of life for our patients but may also become ineffective. Medication protocols will be discussed as well as CAM or complimentary alternative medicine. Numerous therapy techniques and tools available will be presented with rationale for their use. Recommendations for modified diets, liquids or even NPO may not be acceptable to the patient and/or family. As therapists, we need to know what options are available and educate/inform our patients and families to allow them to make decisions that work for them. Options will be addressed as well as concerns with waivers and need for appropriate, thorough documentation.

    - Sherman Oaks, CA / Feb 2022

    Very good course!

    - Bluff City, TN / Aug 2021

I would have thought, based on the title, that this would encompass more of all the therapies and approaches for Parkinson's including cognition and speech. It seemed to be mainly a basic dysphagia course with a few extra side notes for Parkinson's. I think the title is misleading. Good information but a basic dysphagia course.

    - Idaho Falls, ID / Jul 2021

very good overall presentation. I would recommend a little more time on LSVT!

    - West Chester, OH / Jan 2021

    Very comprehensive and informative

    - Reno, NV / Nov 2020

Learned a lot about helpful therapy tools. Particularly appreciative to hear of simple and effective tools that I can create on a limited budget. The only glitch for me was a problem with the difficulty accessing the appropriate sections of the presentations....thank you to your IT team who fixed the problem within 24 hours.

    - Honolulu, HI / Mar 2020

Have the courses available for longer than a month after starting the course

    - Madison, AL / Jan 2020

    - Las Vegas, NV / Sep 2019

    Great course

    - Springfield, VA / Apr 2019

I wish there was more new information compared to the dysphagia therapy new generation course. Too similar and repetitive.
