DESCRIPTION:
So much of what we know about our world comes through our visual system. It affects reading, writing, posture, use of a communication board and so much more, yet we are taught so little about this system that has such a huge impact on the functional abilities of our children. This engaging course will explain the anatomy and physiology of the visual system through evidence-based research and demonstrate the role vision plays in making academics more difficulty for some children. Therapists will learn to recognize the simple signs of undiagnosed vision-based learning impediments so they might better interpret the results of standardized testing. Through lab practice and case studies, attendees will gain confidence in assessing ocular motor and near vision focusing skills then design programs and use modifications to get the best possible outcomes. Attendees will then learn easy and fun techniques for improving these skills.

Suggested items to have on hand for the best course experience:

  1. A Brock String- This is a string, about 24-30 inches long, with 3 or 4 beads. This is used throughout the courses an intervention activity. They can also be found on Amazon by searching for brock string.
  2. A craft/popsicle stick- This will be used during the assessment process as a fixation stick. There are few choices available on Amazon as well found by searching for fixation stick.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Interpret behaviors and difficulties that could indicate an undiagnosed vision problem
  • Illustrate the role vision is playing in the development of their pediatric patients
  • Identify the eye care professional best suited for your patient’s vision problem
  • Identify the parts and function of the near vision triad
  • Differentiate ocular motor difficulties from dyslexia
  • Document ocular motor and near vision focusing problems
  • Differentiate when to perform visual perception testing and when to wait
  • Observe modifications during treatment to compensate for visual dysfunction

    Reviews

Robert is an excellent instructor full of knowledge. The course was well organized with good visuals and treatment suggestions. I feel I will be able to use these ideas right away. Thanks for a great course!

HO-LY COW! Such a great presentation! Well organized and made more understandable by the speaker's examples. This is the most interesting course I've attended in a long time. I will definitely look for more courses taught by Robert Constantine!

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Oct 2022

I am concerned with lack of dsylexia support in the school system. As an Occupational Therapist, I am only able to improve the oculomotor skills and then the student continues to have academic issues. Robert was very helpful dissociating between oculomotor and dyslexia.

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Oct 2022

Excellent course! My first time taking a vision therapy course and Robert does an excellent job in teaching systematically especially when you are new at this. Got to learn a lot and need to keep doing more research and learning to continue learning about vision

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Apr 2022

Great course and Robert is a dynamic speaker.

The support from CIAO was nothing short of amazing! I had technical difficulties the day of the live course and they bent over backwards to ensure that I was able to get the content. Dayna was incredibly helpful and returned my email within a few hours AND on a Sunday. Thank you!!!

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Apr 2021

Appreciate the treatment ideas - recommended clearer slides explaining and defining some of those ideas - got tricky to follow the description and write notes on those items. However the course overall was very beneficially and kept my interest for the full day --- that's not easy to do :)

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Apr 2021

Robert was a fantastic speaker. The information he presented was informative, evidence-based, yet easy to understand and begin to apply to students on my caseload. He gave the theory and practical examples of how to use the information in practice. I appreciate that he gave concrete ideas of treatment examples, while also encouraging creative use and the foundational knowledge to build upon.

Speaker easy to listen too and course was structured well. Thanks!

This was my 3rd course with Robert. He is a wealth of information and keeps his information relevant and presentations up to date. I appreciate his down to earth style of teaching and did laugh at his jokes.

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Jan 2021

This seminar was one of the most informative I have attended in a long time. There was so much information that is practical and applicable to my therapy setting. I look forward to seeing results and differences with the intervention strategies provided following more extensive vision screening with the typical visual perceptual tests.

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Jan 2021

I really enjoyed this course and the lighthearted jokes of the presenter. I look forward to participating in more courses in the future. Thank you!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING COURSE!! I am so thankful I took it! We found out my four month old has a rare retina disease so I took this course in hopes to not only help my patients but my son as well. This course surpassed all expectations!

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Jan 2021

Great course! I will implement many of the strategies next week! Presenter was very easy to listen to for entire program. Glad I took course.

Great Course. I look forward to sharing learned knowledge and helping my clients as a more effective therapist. This presenter is amazing and engaging in a topic that could easily be dry.

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Jan 2021

I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I was reminded of some strategies that I have not used in awhile and found new strategies to improve function through ocular motor skills in the OT setting.

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Jan 2021

This was fantastic! Possibly the best CE course I've taken. Robert was very engaging and so good at explaining the information and answering questions clearly. I'm so glad I signed up!

Speaker was a great balance between professional, relevant, organized and engaging. I never was bored, and I have been taking continuing ed for 25 years.

    - Live Streaming or Studio Audience, FL / Jan 2021

Thank you Robert. This was just the course I needed with the current caseload that I have. Many of my kids have visual deficits along with other areas and now I feel I can better address the specific visual deficits with more knowledge and new ideas.
