Course Description

The ability to move from one service setting to another throughout our career is one of the many benefits of our profession. This move, however, may require a new skill set or a review of information long forgotten. The JCAHO standard of through-put provides an excellent framework in which to discuss the issues of diagnosing and treating the patient with aphasia throughout the continuum of care. In this video-cast, we will review the basics of neuro-anatomy, discuss the Aphasia classification system and the co-morbidities that often accompany aphasia. We will also discuss development of a communication needs protocol for each patient and how that affects this seamless service delivery put forth by the JCAHO core principle of throughput.
