Course Description

Therapeutic Ultrasound research has grown significantly over the past decade. This learning experience offers the rehabilitation specialist an opportunity to gain new knowledge and update their existing knowledge related to the application of therapeutic ultrasound. Participants will learn a research based approach to the dosing and application of therapeutic ultrasound. This course has been specifically designed to have immediate clinical applications. The course will outline a clinical model that can be used to guide clinicians in selecting parameters that yield more predictable thermal and nonthermal responses in human tissue. The model is based on the stage of tissue healing, the depth and composition of the target tissue, and heating rate calculations from the existing therapeutic ultrasound research. This approach will assist the clinician in answering important questions such as; what frequency, intensity, duty cycle, and treatment time should be selected to create the desired therapeutic outcome

Course Requirements:
  • Computer with internet and working speakers/sound are required for this course.
  • Course must be completed within 30 days of activation (activate course within 6 months of purchase).
  • An online multiple-choice quiz (80% passing score) and submission of an online evaluation form are required for successful completion.
  • A certificate of completion will be available to print immediately after course is successfully completed.

  • Discuss indications and contraindications of therapeutic ultrasound
  • Identify common myths and errors in parameter selection and application of ultrasound therapy
  • Discuss clinically relevant research that will guide participants in selecting parameters of treatment that yield more predictable thermal and non-thermal responses in human tissue
  • Apply a clinical model for dosing therapeutic ultrasound based on the stage of tissue healing and desired therapeutic outcome.
  • Compare and contrast the ability of different phonophoresis media to transmit ultrasound

I am taking the information learned and applying it to my lactation practice, as there seems to be no current training specific to the use of therapeutic ultrasound in the management of breast inflammation and clogged ducts during lactation.

    - Collingswood, NJ / Jan 2021

This is a helpful course. There is a controversy in the State of Virginia as to whether or not a massage therapist should use ultrasound therapy in their practice. I have had on the job training and used the ultrasound machine for 30 years. It has enhanced the benefits that my clients experience. I am glad to finally find and teaching program to help get certified in ultrasound usage.
